Someone just rear ended you! Here are some actions you should take if you are not severely injured and if there are no significant injuries to the other party:

  1. Call the police.

  2. Exchange information-driver’s license, registration, license plate number, and insurance information.

  3. Get out your cell phone and photograph the damage to your car, inside and outside.

  4. Photograph the other driver’s vehicle

  5. If the person driving the other vehicle says “I’m sorry” or words to that effect…Remember the statement!

  6. When the police arrive and you are asked whether you have been hurt tell the officer what your injuries are. If he asks if you want to go to the h

       Go to the hospital say yes. (I am not advising you to make up an injury but if you’re feeling any pain, it is best to have a doctor check you out            despite the long wait at an emergency room)

  7.   If there are witnesses to the collision get their names and contact information including insurance.

  8    If the collision occurred during the day, check and see if there are any skid marks. Photograph them.

  9    Do not get into an argument with the at fault driver.

 10.  Do not get into an argument with the police officer

 11   When you arrive at home. Call your insurance carrier. Tell them what happened and ask what coverage you have.

 12   If you can, call your primary physician and ask for an appointment

 

        You would be surprised that there are so many people who don’t take these steps. You need to be as pro-active as you can. It is a matter of your health and monetary compensation.
